Mifepristone (200 mg), the first tablet taken under medical supervision, blocks the hormone progesterone, which is essential for maintaining pregnancy. Without progesterone, the uterine lining begins to shed, and the pregnancy stops developing. After 24 to 48 hours, Misoprostol (800 mcg – usually in the form of four 200 mcg tablets) is taken, either orally or vaginally, to induce uterine contractions. This expels the pregnancy tissue from the uterus, mimicking a natural miscarriage.
